Five Go Up the Guts (Unplugged)

With the van stored at Port Augusta, we made a speedy trip into the red centre ...

The sign says it all.

After an all day driving effort, Little F enjoyed his birthday in an underground camp at Coober Pedy.

School was held in the underground tv room

And afterwards, we went "noodling" for opals (that's effectively scavenging in old mullock heaps)

And after another long day in the car, we breakthrough to the "Territory".

Heave Away, Haul Away...

...we're bound for South Australia (with a quick haul from Melbourne along the Great Ocean Road).

We often show you photos of the more exotic dinner locations, but sometimes you just have to make  do with the nearest available bench (this is at Werribee shortly after getting off the Spirit of Tasmania).

Leaving Tasmania

The final week in Tasmania was a rushed affair along the east coast and some final savoring through the inner central stretch towards Devonport for sailing.

Coles Bay in Freycinet National Park was a perfect breakfast location.

M hunted for mussels and J made them into a delicious mussel soup!

Bicheno Blowhole................fun for some, not for others...

While the boys played with at the blowhole, the girls stayed dry (?) at the waters edge.

A shucking good time at our beachfront camp at Swimcart Beach on the east coast.

Pretty hard to beat this camp at Swimcart Beach.

The Bay of Fires was a great exploring location...............

.......... and this newly discovered island was dubbed "Spy Island".

Derby had some great spots to have a coffee and partake  in a mind bending puzzle.

And at Old Mac's Farm in Launceston the kids went strawberry picking............

..............Big F got ready for the campfire...............

..............and M enjoyed it after everyone else fell asleep.

Leaving Devonport..............

...............as we watched Tasmania disappear over the horizon.

We'll be covering some serious kilometers in the next few weeks as we attempt to make up some time for the extra long stay in Tas. We all loved it, and could spend another six weeks there to see everything we missed.
